But Sherlock Holmes deduces that the prince has been the victim of murder--a murder that is only one bit of a larger and much far more portentous puzzle, intended by a person Professor Moriarty. Mixing small business with enjoyment, Holmes tracks the clues to an underground gentlemen's club, exactly where he and his brother, Mycroft Holmes (Stephen Fry) are toasting Dr. Watson on his very last evening of bachelorhood. It is there that Holmes encounters Sim (Noomi Rapace), a Gypsy fortune teller, who sees much more than she is telling and whose unwitting involvement within the prince's murder tends to make her the killer's following target. Holmes hardly manages to avoid wasting her life and, in return, she reluctantly agrees to help him.

The investigation becomes ever before far more risky since it prospects Holmes, Watson and Sim throughout the continent, from England to France to Germany and at last to Switzerland.
